On the Value of Literariness of College English Class

This paper proposes that literature is of great value to achieving college English teaching objective, as it helps to cultivate students＇ comprehensive linguistic competence, raise students＇ humanistic attainments and satisfy students＇ emotional needs. It also suggests several ways to make college English class more literary, such as exploring the themes and aesthetic values of the literary texts, sup- plementing class with literary teaching materials, designing literary class activities and offering electives on English literature.
