严复关于近代国家理念的阐释

严复是中国近代思想史上最早从理论上阐述近代国家理念的思想家。他通过发表一系列重要译著、论文,系统地介绍了西方国家学说,用进化论、民权说、自由论以及近代政治学、社会学等学说,否定"君权神授"的陈说,阐述近代国家理论原则,为国人提出一个全新的国家理念。严复在进化论的基础上,借鉴西人研究成果,提出以"图腾"、"宗法"、"军国"为循序演进的社会发展阶段论,否定了历史循环论,推动了国人历史观的进步。严复不仅向国人介绍了大量新学说、新思想,给正在成长的新兴资产阶级提供了新的理论武器,而且以出色的翻译成就对中国近代文化的形成作出了杰出的贡献。

Yan Fu's Interpretation of the Modern Idea of the State

Yan Fu is the first thinker in modern Chinese intellectual history to give theoretical interpretation of the modern idea of the state.With his papers and translations,he introduced systematically into China,western theories of evolution,civil rights,freedom,modern politics and sociology,denouncing the then popular idea of "Divine Right",providing Chinese people with a brand-new idea of the state.Borrowing from the theory of evolution and other western thoughts,Yan Fu proposed the evolutionary theory of state development stages of "Totem","Patriarchal Ethics",and "military state",thus denouncing the thoughts of viewing history as cyclic,bringing about new understandings of history.Thus,Yan Fu provided the emerging bourgeoisie with new theoretical weapons.Besides,Yan Fu made great contributions in shaping modern Chinese culture with his translations of western works.
