论加拿大民族国家的形成

加拿大民族国家是从英帝国中逐渐分离出来的。自治制度是其民族国家演进的基础 ,在自治制度的保护下 ,加拿大得以发展 ;而自治制度赋予它选择自身利益的权力 ,又使其形成了自己的民族特性。英国试图通过自治制度来维系其帝国统治 ,因而不得不一再对加拿大做出让步 ,更加滋长了后者的民族主义。其结果 ,加拿大在第一次世界大战的冲击下走向成熟 ,最终突破了自治制度的框架。

On the Formation of the National State of Canada

The national state of Canada was gradually severed from the British Empire. The self governing system was the basis of its national state. Canada achieved its development under the protection of the self governing system, which provided it with the right to choose its own interests and enabled it to form its own national characteristics. Britain attempted to retain its imperial dominance with the dominion system and had to make concession to Canada time and again, which engendered the latter's nationalism. As a result, Canada grew mature under the influence of WWI, and finally broke through the framework of dominion system.
