Summing up and comparing the cultural characteristics of Guangxi and GMS, this paper holds that although Guangxi has become a member of Mekong River economic sub-region, it has to confront the fact that it doesn't have the advantage over Yunnan concerning the border. However, the cultural similarity of ethnic groups between Guangxi's Zhuang and Tong and GMS's Thai and Gelo and Shan provides the foundation of cultural links for Guangxi's participating in the economic construction of GMS. To begin with cultural programs, Guangxi will have the priority.
