９０年代，匈牙利社会党经历了了由在野党到执政党再到在野党的剧变，匈牙利的民主社会主义面临着社会主义在匈牙利遭到历史性挫折和在匈牙利坚持社会主义的矛盾，社会党的性质与匈牙利资本主义趋势的矛盾、工人阶级传统的政党同匈牙利劳资结构分化不明显之间的矛盾。资本主义化决定了匈牙利民主社会主义地位的不稳定性。

Hungary Socialist Party is playing an important role in Hungary politics. During wielding political power, it kept Hungary political situation stable, took several key steps towards achieving reform objective, improved the relation with neighboring countries and so on, earning favorable comment by personalities of various circles. But it also committed some errors. At present, the difficult position faced by Socialist Party show themselves as three great contradictories: the contradictories between suffering historical setbacks by Hungary socialism and sticking to socialism in Hungary, between the tradition and nature of Socialist Party and the main trend of capitalization, and between Socialist Party as a working class one and incomplete class polarization. However, the faults inherent in current coalition govemment and errors would make a good opportunity of staging a comeback for Socialist Party.
