《金瓶梅》里的西门庆通常被作为地主、商人、官僚三合一的反面典型。其实,西门庆主要是一个商人,而且是一个具有精明的商业头脑和较好的商业道德的新兴商人。他不仅对商品价值有准确判断,对商业前景有正确预测,善于降低经营成本和提高商业利润,善于宏观管理和调配资源,而且重合同,守信誉,反对弄虚作假,主张合理分配利润,体现出资本主义萌芽时期社会新的生产关系和新的发展要求。他虽然不是一个应该全面肯定的人物,却是一个具有新质的值得社会关注并给予正确评价的人物。
