Song Shu's Thoughts about Modern Marriage and Family

The starting point of modern reformist thinkers' concern with the issue of marriage is women's liberation.Due to the different social environment and personal factors,their opinions and arguments varied.Song Shu,known as the first man of systematically criticizing "husband is the guide of his wife",clearly expressed his ideas about women's liberation,of which his proposal of reforming feudal marriage customs was important.Song argued that women should be granted the freedom of marriage,including freedom of marrying and divorcing as well as prohibition of marrying at an early age.Song's thoughts about marriage and family stemmed from his sympathy with women,an entirely different perspective from those whose discussions about women's liberation were based on the strength or weakness of sex.
