On the Positive Attitudes to Marriage of Women in Han Dynasty

The attitudes of women towards marriage were comparatively positive in Han dynasty, which could be shown by the facts that the rich women could marry the poor men ; most women preferred the men of virtue and they insisted on the independent mar- riage; when facing an unfortunate marriage, women in Han dynasty could choose to marry again and continue to live actively. For the poor couple life, women were consistently loyal to their lovers, going through joys and sorrows with their husbands. These positive atti- tudes to marriage of women in Han dynasty could be reasoned for their comparatively high social status and that they were less affected by Confucianism.
