后现代主义是70年代以来在西方世界出现的学术思潮。20世纪70年代,吉登斯的社会学思想初入学术界;吉登斯和后现代主义有一种矛盾的关系:一方面吉登斯是在批判他们的论点中发展了自己的社会学理论体系,另一方面,在方法论和认识论上又吸收了他们的很多思想。在这样一个时期中,英国学术界也正经历从实证主义到批判主义的方向转变,在这种批判精神潮流中,吉登斯的社会学思想与后现代主义思潮有着不可忽视的某些关联,而通过这些线索,我们可以发现20世纪末期以来,欧洲社会学理论发展的主线。

Post modernism as an academic ethos turned up in the Western world in 1970s,Giddens' theory of sociology entered academic fields firstly.There are some contradictions between Giddens' theory of sociology and post modernism.Giddens develops his theory of sociology through criticizing some ideas of post modernism;at the same time,Giddens absorbs many views on methodology and epistemology from post modernism.During that time,the academic circles were turning from positivism to criticism in Britain.In this respect,it seems that there is a connection between Giddensian theory of sociology and post modernism.Then,what connection is there between Giddensian theory and post modernism? And the clues in this paper show the mainstreams of sociology theory in European in the later twentieth century.
