CULTURAL CONFLICTS AND SELF-IDENTIFICATION EXPERIENCED BY CHINESE AMERICAN WRITERS

Chinese American writers have been considering the issues of self-ownership and self-identity under the American racial and economic oppressions since their first day of arrival in the United States.On the one hand,although being marginalized and feeling humiliated in the American mainstream culture,they tried to keep their voice and dignity in the disadvantaged groups,counter the mainstream culture,and fight against racial discrimination and cultural misunderstanding.On the other hand,they tried to accept the American social values,began to inspect the traditional Chinese culture,to integrate the American culture,to pursue the changes and diversity of life,and hoped for stability and a home for their soul and spirit.The cultural conflicts and self-identification experienced by Chinese American writers are essentially a microcosm of,on the China’s road to Cultural Power,the collision and blending between the Chinese and American culture.It is significant to research on the cultural conflicts and self-identification experienced by Chinese American writers for thinking about China’s "Cultural Power".
