A Systematic Analysis of Structure of Academic Management in German Universities and Its Implications

Universities in Germany have been renowned in the world for their long history and distinctive organizational forms of teaching and academic research, and the high quality of education and levels of research have earned them the reputation as "Universities of Research". This paper, by giving a brief introduction to the history of the structure of academic management (organization) in German universities, elaborates on the systematic analysis of the characteristics, development and reforms of the structure, aiming to probe into the reciprocity in between the reform of academic management structure at universities and the disciplinary progress and levels of research and teaching, thereby offering reference and suggestion to the transformation of the academic administration structure currently under way in colleges and universities of China.
