| Abstract: | In order to expound the applications of the converse thought in the research of English vocabulary, the author takes four adverbs as examples that are frequently used in the phrasal verbs showing the meaning of “making progress”. These four adverbs are “ahead”, “along”, “forward” and “on”. If we can have a cognizance of regarding the prepositions and adverbs in the phrasal verbs as the central words, we can grasp the similarities in the meanings of these phrasal verbs and their mutual relations more clearly and explicitly. Only in this way can we make more flexible and correct applications for the extremely difficult phrasal verbs. |
