On the Concern about Context in the Philosophical Discussion on Meaning

As a significant concept closely related with the discussion on meaning, context is always understood differently when the basic concept of meaning is defined differently, resulting in some confusion in present study of context. The paper makes a literature review over the philosophic discussion on meaning, trying to interpret the relation between meaning and context over several periods, so as to outline the historical development of the philosophic concern about context embodied in meaning discussion, and to trace the philosophical basis of such concern.
