GREAT WOMEN IN GREAT DEPRESSION-A FEMINIST READING OF THE GRAPES OF WRATH

This paper aims at an analysis of the feminist spirit expressed in The Grapes of Wrath,the masterpiece of the famous American writer John Steinbeck.The analysis is based on a good understanding of the great women in the novel,ma,Rose of Sharon and the women committee members of Number Four Sanitary Unit,who are the representatives of feminists.Moreover,this paper also presents the difference between the feminist spirit in the novel from that in feminist movement and concludes that the portrayal of feminist spirit in the novel is for the purpose of displaying the miserable life of the poor in the Great Depression.
