辽代北疆地区的开发

辽代北疆地区在城镇建设、农业、牧业上都有长足的进展。城镇建设上,出现了上京、中京等大城市,在草原地区出现了大批头下军州城。在上京、中京地区,不仅农耕范围得以扩大,而且在农作物品种也渐趋多样,农具也有了一定的进步。北疆的牧业的经营以群牧司官营为主,其畜群都十分庞大,动辄以千计。

Development of the northern border areas of Liao Dynasty

In Liao Dynasty,the northern border areas saw a mighty advance in town construction,agriculture and animal husbandry.Large cities such as Shangjing and Zhongjing are built as well as a large number of Tou-xia towns.In those areas,farmland was expanded,crop varieties became increasingly diverse and some progress was made in agricultural tools.The main management form of animal husbandry was called Qun-mu-si which kept large herds of more than thousands.
