| Abstract: | The Chaozhoulese have been renowned far and wide for commercially - mindedness, butthere seems to have had little research work done by the academic circles. In view of this, this paper,based on full and accurate source materials, makes an investigation into the origin and evolution of thechambers of commerce at Chaozhou-Shantou Area during the end of the Qing Dynasty, with detailed account on their causes and especially on the important leaders thereof, thus filling a gap in the studies onChaozhou-Shantou culture. |
