In scrutinizing the text of the Catcher in the Rye, we find that Holden shows a conflict between virtue and beauty which beneath his nervous sense and puzzled behaving; All this comes from his dual roles as holders of both paternal principle and maternal characteristic, and so he wants to flee from the secular world, pursce for childness, which sometime be in contradiction with his strong desire, and sometime in harmony.
