严复的东学观与清末统一译名活动

严复反对清末知识分子通过日本学习西学的潮流，对日本传来的新名词持批判态度。在清末10年，他试图通过主持官方的统一译名工作，如编订名词馆，将日译名词替换为符合严复翻译思想的新名词。严复译词虽始终无法取代日本译词的巨大影响，但其译词所蕴含的语言民族主义，成为解读严复其人及其翻译的新途径。

Yen Fu’s View on Dong Xue and the Attempt of Unifying Translated Terms in Late Ch’ing

During the trend of learning Xi Xue from Japan in late Ch’ing, Yen Fu, however, criticized Dong Xue all the time, including the new terms Japanese had translated. In the last ten years of late Ch’ing, Yen Fu hosted government’s work on unifying translated terms for several times, such as Terms Compiling Department. Yen Fu attempted to replace Japanese terms with those he had authorized. Although it came to a failure in the end, the thought of linguistic nationalism embedded in Yen Fu’s translated terms has become a new way to understand him and his translation works.
