澳门作为近500年西学东渐和东学西传的独木桥,以及东西方各种宗教、文化交汇碰撞之地,在西方走向中国、中国连接世界的大航海时代扮演了极为重要的角色.澳门研究在通向重新认知甚至改写中国乃至世界近代历史的学术努力中,应形成与敦煌学等相媲美甚至更具现实优势的澳门学.澳门学作为一种独立的学问,须以澳门深厚的历史及其研究为基础,建构以澳门历史和社会现实为核心内容同时又能丰富世界历史认知的知识系统,揭示出人类文明进程中的澳门图式及其学术范式,从而为人类文明的发展乃至世界和平的进程提供有价值的参照.
