本文从城市功能角度出发，通过研究广州在国内城市发展地位的演变，认准与先进城市功能发展的差距，确定城市发展方向，提出广州要从提升国家经济中心功能、金融服务功能、枢纽性功能、决策控制和信息服务功能、科技创新功能等方面加强城市功能建设，提高城市综合竞争力，推进国家中心城市建设。

Urban Functions: The Determinants of Building National Central Cities

From the perspective of urban functions, the paper examines the status and development of Guangzhou among domestic cities and the gap between Guangzhou and some advanced world cities. Based on the differences found, it can be determined that in order to forge itself as a national central city, Guangzhou needs to promote urban functions such as national economic centre, financial service centre, central hub, decision control, information service centre and technological innovation park so that it will become one of the most comprehensively competitive cities of the country.
