On the Plight of the UK in Implementing Independently the Postwar Policy of Nuclear Deterrence

In the early postwar days, the Attlee Government confronted insumountable difficulties in implementing independently the policy of nuclear deterrence, noticeably in four aspects： the fundamental constraint of its economical plight and scarce resources; its compulsory communication and cooperation in nuclear development with its Dominions, the United States and the Occident; the British challenged independent status in national defense in the background of the formation of the two poles and the establishment of NATO; its limited power and effect in nuclear deterrence.
