纪念著名数学家曾炯博士

59年前,在我们校园里,有一位世界著名的数学家,他就是曾炯博士。他早年留学德国,获Gottingen大学博士学位,也是著名数学家陈省身、吴大任等教授在汉堡的同学。他的导师是Emmy Noether。曾炯获得《曾定理》、《曾层次》等有名成果。为了抗日,曾博士在我们这块地方教书,病逝在西昌城。我们怀着沉痛的心情,纪念伟大的数学家曾炯博士。

In Memory of Dr. Zeng Jiong Who Was a Famous Mathematician

In our college, there was a famous mathematician fifty-nine years ago. He was Dr. Zeng Jiong. April2 of this year is the 102st anniversary of the birthday of Zeng Jiong, a mathematician who made a great contribu-tion to abstract algebra. In the earsly 1930s, he came back to China to train qualified scientists and technicians forhis motherland immediately after he had obtained a doctor's degree at Germany's Gottingen University. He diedof illness in November 1940.
