| Abstract: | This article gives an annotation to the concept of "buffoonery" in terms of etymology and semantics. The author holds that the buffoonery of characters was derived from a Chinese word referring to a kind of drinking vessels, that the essential senses of buffoonery are "tactful eloquence" and "garbling of similarities and differences", and that the value orientation tends to be "implying sobriety in humor". |
