1930-1936年,汕头市商会内部各派系围绕商会的改组、改选展开了激烈的竞争,导致会务停滞,商会履行职权的权威性和合法性备受质疑,最终得由地方军政机构强力干预,方得以保证改选的顺利。但改选并不能解决商会内部业已存在的问题,各方又迭起争斗,使商会在地方社会的影响力大受削弱。
