摘    要:本文根据认知语言学的隐喻研究理论对CollinsCobuildHarperCollins出版公司1995年出版的《隐喻》一书的价值进行了探讨,认为该书有助于英语学习者了解隐喻与人们的认知、思维、经历乃至行为的重要关系,熟悉以英语为本族语的人们的认知方式和文化特征,从而有意识地培养符合以英语为本族语的人们的思维方式,最终习得地道的英语。

Abstract:Following cognitive linguist theories for the st udies of English metaphors, this paper seeks to give a criticism of \%Metaphor\% , an English\|learning guide book published by HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. in 1995. After a brief survey, the paper concludes that the book is valuable as it helps to arouse the English learners' awareness of the important relationship be tween metaphors and the way people think, what people experience and even what p eople do every day. It enables the Chinese learners of English to familiarize th emselves with native English speakers' way of thinking as is shown in their dail y use of metaphors, and therefore it facilitates the learners' development of En glish proficiency and eventually the acquisition of native\|like English.
