江泽民在论述我国改革开放以来新出现的民营科技企业的创业人员和技术人员及私营企业主等社会阶层时 ,称“他们也是有中国特色社会主义事业的建设者” ,并对这六大类社会阶层排序时 ,将民营科技企业的创业人员排在首位 ,这不仅是政治上“统战”的需要 ,更重要的是在对人们社会身份的认定上破除了传统的以“剥削”或“劳动”为界定的 ,非此即彼的思维定势。这是以人们在发展社会主义生产力中所处的地位和所起的作用为依据的表述方法 ,是科学的定位和最佳表述 ,是对马克思主义的理论创新
