A Modular Approach to Optionality in Second Language Acquisition

This paper probes into the optionality from interactive constrains among linguistic and non-linguistic modules in second language acquisition. Speech production requires the coordination of modules and their interafaces. Optionality either results from L1’s superceding of L2 that is still underspecified in coindex or low in activation level, or from the coersion of extralinguistic modules to the linguistic ones.
