摘    要:英语习语认知是一个很复杂的过程,受到本体、喻体以及信息选择等因素的交互影响。学习者在认知英语习语中,既要准确界定并了解本体和喻体的概念属性,还要将本体和喻体置于相关文化背景之中进行信息选择和匹配,达成准确认知和理解习语的目标。

Abstract:The process of understanding English idioms is complicated.Through analyzing English idioms by metaphor which is the most common cognitive mechanism applied in the English idioms, this paper finds that the tenor,the vehicle,the ability of choosing information are three main con-straints in understanding English idioms.The receivers should not only understand the meaning of the tenor and the vehicle in each English idiom,but also have the ability of information matching which is combined with cultural background.Only in this way can we overcome the difficulties in understand-ing English idioms and improve English language proficiency.
