Literature's "Popularization" and the Countermeasures of Contemporary Critique——Beginning from the Prevailing Appraisal of Chi Li's Novels

Beginning from the prevailing appraisal of Chi Li's novels,this paper tries to disclose the difference between the literature being received by the masses and understood from the level of effect and the literature understood from the level of value.This has to do with literary circles' understanding of the "masses",the essence of literature,and the relationship between popularity and commercialization.This paper emphasizes that we should face the phenomenon of literary "popularization" and its internal law and that it is necessary for new aesthetic principles be introduced into the criticism of literary "popularization."
