| 摘 要： | 地方英语电视新闻报道使用的词语大多是积极向上的，尽量避免使用令观众感到不愉快或不雅的词语，对语言的形象易懂和简单明了有更高要求。长词、抽象的名词和过去分词等可以达到委婉的效果。电视新闻中应选择适合口头播报的小词或应用较普遍的词汇，采用增词、减词、音译、归化、异化等翻译策略。社会变化、歧义、地域文化差异、文体风格等都会给委婉语的取舍带来影响。

| Abstract: | The analysis of eight typical examples from a small corpus of Chinese - English translation of television news reveals the features and translation strategies of the euphemisms in local English television news. It is found that the effect of euphemism can be achieved by means of long words, abstract nouns and past participles. The oral reporting of television news calls for the use of midget words and most common words as well the adoption of such strategies as amplification, omission, transliteration, domestication and alienation. The choices of euphemisms may also be affected by such factors as social changes, ambiguity, the regional and cultural differences of English and stylistic features. |
