Abstract:Among Xuanquan slips of Han Dynasty published by Zhang Defang in 2002,there are two recorded Zheyuan and Jiyue in Western Regions,of which both kingdoms have never known before. In this paper their locations are studied through examination of the historical context of the contents of the slips and etymological analyses. It can be concluded that Zheyuan was a Chinese name for Zarangiana, another name for Wu-yi-shan-li in the Notes on Western Regions of Han Annals or for its capital Zarin;and Jiyue was Zihe(Xiye) in the same Annals, which was referred as Sizyges in Roman geographer Ptolemy’s Records of Geography.Further more, the name of lion in Zheyuan slip reveals some facts of the history of East-West cultural communications.
Keywords:Zarangiana  Sizyges  Xuanquan bamboo slips  Alexandria-Prophthasia  lion
