Abstract:The May 4th Movement 90 years ago was also a glorious page in the revolutionary history Yunnan. On June 4, 1919, a demonstration was made by people from various ethnic groups or walks of life in "the Golden Emerald Park" to support the patriotic movement of students in Beijing. The people of Yunnan, having established a conference, were determined to carry forward the struggle of "getting rid of evils and traitors, the abolition of unequal treaties, anti - Japanese imperialism, and salvation of the nation", together with people in other provinces. In June 8, "Yunnan Patriotic Association of Students" was officially established, and branches were immediately set up successively in Dali, Tengchong, Simao, Mengzi and Zhaotong, promoting the movements of anti - Japanese imperialism (especially the resistance of the Japanese commodities) and anti - feudalism (aiming at the advocacy of newcultural movement). These endeavors have greatly advanced the process of thought emancipation and the dissemination of Marxist ideas in Yunnan . As a result, Mr. Sun Yat - sen specially granted an interview to the delegates from Yunnan. Inspired to carry on their great deeds, the Yunnan youths established over 40 kinds of newspapers and periodicals such as Patriotic Daily, The Dian Tide, New Agency of the Dian, and The Dian Daybreak, contributing greatly to the activities of condemning the defects of that time, criticizing the old ideas and promoting new ideas. Some of the staff members of New Agency of the Dian joined the C. P. C., active in the revolutionary work in Beijing against the Japanese ferocities attacking the Dagukou Turret Fortress and the Government Hall.
