A Discussion on the Development of China's West with a Review of the Policies for Nationalities Made in the Reign of Kangxi and Qianlong

In the process to exploit and construct China's west, it is of particular importance to adjust appropriately the relationship among different ethnic groups and lay down correct policies for nationalities. This is beneficial to social and economic development. The policies for ethnic groups made in the reign of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong played an effective role for social stability and economic development in the ethnic minority regions. They can definitely give us certain enlightenment and reference to the development of law in the west of China today if a serious study is conducted of the guideline, the contents, the historical role and the limitations of these policies.
