On the Directors of Expressive Violence Film in Current Japan

Takashi Kitano, Shinya Tsukamoto and Takashi Miike are leading exponent in current Japanese film. Takashi Kitano was fascinated by tradition of Bushido and demonstrated this characteristic to Western countries. Shinya Tsukamoto focused on the social consequences of industrialization, and criticized modernist symptoms. Takashi Miike revealed the anxiety of identity in violent circumstances based on his judgment of the multi-dimensional opening of current Japanese society. Their film constructed their own topics beyond the violence, and examined current Japanese society from different angles.
