An Analysis of Adam Smith's Thought of Economic Growth and Its Contemporary Inspiration

This paper presents a deep analysis of Smith's thought of economic growth, including its tradition, connotation, problems and influence. Being the first height of economic growth theory, Smith's thought was not only influential in his time, but remains the core of the mainstream economic growth theory nowadays. However, Smith's thought has its defect: its emphasis on the supply growth and capital was reasonable at that time, yet overlooked the demand growth and people's subjectivity, which led to a theoretical predicament. Therefore, both the accomplishment and the defect of Smith's thought bear enlightenment to the modern economic growth theory.
