| 摘 要： | THE poetic quotation, "All houses are built by river," describes the scene in Bacheng, an ancient and beautiful water town in Jiangnan (regions in the south of the Yangtze River). Along the variegated stone banks, is one pier after another where local women do their washing. A narrow cobbled road along the riverside is lined with shops, stores and wine booths, managed by women and older people. On the river, boats and ships stream by day and night.
