Population census work quality mainly is reflected in its coverage error scale. Several methods to estimate population census coverage error have been developed by demographers. Some methods use information from independent of census itself, while other methods use population administrative records information. Because each method has its specific formation background and scope of application, the general method which is suitable for all countries and regions is not existing. Those methods used to estimate coverage error in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Britain and China are reviewed in detail in order to illustrate how to use these methods. The conclusion is that each method has its limitation and needs to be improved.
