The novel became one of the favorite readings of Japanese when its Japanese translation by Konan Bunzan with another title "A Vernacular History of the Three Kingdoms" was published in 1692 and widespread around Japan since then. In the late Edo period, it began to provide materials not only for a lot of illustrated books, but also for the various traditional arts of Japan, such as "ningyo Joruri" and "Syarebon," etc. In the process of transition, the characters in the novel had been adapted to local tastes and lost its original form. What can be found in the changes of the novel is the cultural core requested by the common people in Edo Janan.
