20世纪上半叶的西北少数民族研究是伴随着近代西北边疆研究的第二次高潮展开的.从近代西北边疆研究的第二次高潮、陕甘宁边区的民族研究、西北回族伊斯兰教的历史文化研究、西北藏族研究、新疆少数民族研究五个层面,对20世纪上半叶的西北少数民族研究状况、成果和特点,进行了介绍和分析.认为,这一时期开展的研究,是西北少数民族研究的第一个繁荣期,成绩卓著,影响深远,为20世纪中期以后的西北少数民族研究奠定了基础.

A Survey of Northwest China Ethnic Studies in the First Half of the 20th Century

The author holds that the studies on Northwest China's ethnic groups in the first half of the 20th century, which were started hand in hand with the second wave of Northwest frontier studies, encompass mainly the following five aspects: northwest frontier studies, studies of the ethnic groups in the bordering areas of Gansu, Shaanxi and Ningxia provinces, historical and cultural studies of the Islamic people, Tibetan studies and studies of the Xinjiang ethnic groups. Such studies, the paper concludes, constitute the first flourishing of China's northwest ethnic work and have laid a sound foundation for further research.
