Tea house and pub: the key image of narration of modern Chinese towns

The total narration space of 20th century Chinese literature is composed by town literature, metropolitan literature and village literature. Different from the images of metropolitan and village literature, the tea house and the pub, due to their popularity and importance, become the key image of narration of modern Chinese towns. By using them as the background of their works, the writers expose the social environment, human interrelations and psychology, expressing criticism to the negative values of town people.
