Abstract: | ABSTRACTThe interplay among artifacts, agencies, organizations, and individuals has been a theme in the work of Naoki Ueno and his colleagues. Examples from Ueno’s work in Nepal and Japan characterize this interplay, and reveal contrasting outcomes regarding the reification of artifacts. Features of the political and social contexts in which these interactions play out impact whether and how reification (or on some occasions de-reification) of artifacts can occur. |
