The paper gives a primary textual research in punctuating and explaining the classical content on the epigraph of Yi Shinsei, a Japanese student studying in China in the Tang Dynesty, which is collected by the Museum of Northwest University. The paper studies primarily such issues as the name of the owner of the tomb , the time when the Japarese stndent studied in China, the official title conferred by the Enperor of the Tang Dynasty, his treatment and the country name "Japan", etc.
