Informal Insurance Institution in our Rural Community Social Security System

Foreign sociologists and economists have paid great attention to the role of informal insurance institution in rural areas in developing countries. They put forward the view that informal insurance institution is not as efficient as formal insurance system; still it plays an important role in community risk sharing arrangements. The author analyzes informal risk-sharing mechanism from the perspective of demand and supply of insurance service in rural communities and holds that informal insurance institution plays a considerably important role in our rural communities and needs further improvements.
