In the long history of Ci,the Xiaoyan style is mainly derived from the Yan-Ou Style, especially from the Dayan Style,the Xiaoyan poetry being with the more individualized characteristics than the Dayan poetry does,embodying Xiaoshan's profound sad melody about human life.As a branch beyond the main poetical stream with the Yan-Ou style, the Dongpo style and the Shaoyou style as its centre during the North Song dynasty,the Xiaoyan style has acquired the more important complementary significance in the history of Tang and Song Poetry.
