The patterns on the tubular skirts of Li brocade constitute the important symbolic language of the so- cial history of the Li people, among which the frog and humanoid patterns are the core. The humanoid patterns on the tubular skirts of Li brocade include the frogposture type, the concrete humanoid type and the simplified humanoid type. The humanoid pattern is the manifestation of the totem reflecting the customs of ancestor worship in the early Li society, and its connotations imply the worship for man himself, the consanguinity, and the hero and so on. The patterns reveal the transitional evolution of the Li society from the totem worship to the patriarchal society in the early period.
