李伯元与“谴责小说”的兴起

晚清“谴责小说”的兴起,并非如鲁迅所论兴起于庚子事变后的1901年和受庚子事变的刺激,而是兴起于1903年,原因是以李伯元为代表的报人作家对梁启超发起的“小说界革命”的响应。《官场现形记》开创了晚清旨在揭露官场腐败及其原因的“写实派”社会小说的典范。
