A Conversational Analysis of the Absence of Evaluation in the 3rd Turn of News Interview

This paper proposes that the essential component of conversation is the three-turn sequential organization, which exists in both mundane conversation and institutional interaction. On the basis of that understanding, we analyze 3rd turn in news interview and arrive at the conclusion that evaluation is not found in the third turn delivered by the program host, although the third turn can be used to fulfill different communicative functions, and we think that absence of evaluation in the third turn is in accordance with the requirements of news media to be neutral.
