Evolution and Retrogression: A Brief History of Chinese Fiction and the Historical View of the Theory of Evolution

The historical view of the theory of evolution which exerted a tremendous influence on the compilation of the Chinese literary history on the 20th century has been accepted by the vast majority. Being a scholar of literary history, Lu Xun was influenced by the historical view of the theory of evolution. However, he made his choice on this view while compiling A Brief History of Chinese Fiction. Because of its unique pattern of research on the literary history, A Brief History of Chinese Fiction became a distinct and typical text in the history of historiography of Chinese fiction.
