Comment on WANG fu-zhi's Theory of Poetic Rhythm

WANG fu-zhi pointed out that the beauty of tone and rhythm was the of poems that was differentiated from other literary forms and also was the important factor that poems "tug at men's heartstrings with the sound" and produced the artistic appeal. The tone and rhythm stemmed from the rhythm of the emotion in heart, the two must be coordinated and in perfect harmony. From this, he clearly put forward "having both sound and emotion"and expounded the standard of "pleasing to the ear and coordinating to the heart".
