香山地区早期留学运动对近代中国社会发展的影响

在中国历史上,广东香山地区虽然不能与传统文化底蕴深厚的一些文化名城相比,但它由于地处近代中外文化交流的前沿,较早地受到了西方文化的影响,所以香山人得以较早地开眼向洋看世界,率先走出国门去异域求知,并逐渐兴起了影响中国后来发展的留学运动,涌现出了孙中山、容闳、唐绍仪和唐国安等一大批革命家、政治家、外交家、教育家以及诸多杰出人士;而且这种运动与近代中国的爱国诉求相结合,与晚清的革命呼声相结合,从而极其鲜明地体现了近代中国留学运动的爱国特点,并为推动近代中国的社会转型和文化转型作出了特殊的贡献。

The impact of early overseas students from Xiangshan on modern Chinese society

Due to its location on the southern coast of China,Xiangshan had the advantage of making communications with the outside world.Influenced by western culture in the late 19th century,a group of young people began to go abroad for learning,many of whom later became revolutionaries,statesmen,diplomats,educationists and other outstanding talents,such as Sun Yat-sen,Rong Hong,Tang Shaoyi and Tang Guoan.Under the background of revolutionary situation in that period,their experience embodied the patriotic feeling and the ideal of invigorating China,which eventually made contributions to modern China’s social and cultural transformation.
